“I don’t want something I need. I want something I want.”

OK, so maybe Mia, the flirtatious assistant from my favorite holiday movie Love, Actually, isn’t exactly an ideal role model. But I have to give her props for this kinda-selfish-but-haven’t-I-earned-it sentiment.

Inspired by Dave’s post – and shamed by the realization that, based on my “Etsy who?” reaction I apparently do live under some kind of rock – I spent last night trolling the site for fun stuff to add to my own letter to Santa.

Founding’s Maize rings include scraps from antique maps and dictionaries and are made from recycled silver (you had me at antique map). You can tote several at once (sort of like my kids each clinging to a leg) or go solo.

So here’s something you don’t know about me: I have always, always wanted to be the “Norm” of my local coffee shop. You know, have the baristas shout “Kerry!” when I come in and get ready to pour me my morning Sumatra. It hasn’t happened yet, but I’m thinking that with LennyMud’s lead-free ceramic Elvis travel mug, I’m on my way.

Is it wrong to put MiBookCasa’s Han Solo poster on my list? No? Good.

Xcessrize laptop bag. “Life is too short to carry an ugly bag,” says Xcessrize. Amen. And I love that I wouldn’t have to keep walking around with my current, boring black case that screams “Look at me. I’ve got a LAPTOP in here. Am I something, or what?”

Yes, it’s annoying to have the person next to you on the train try to sneak peeks at what you’re reading. But just between us, don’t you feel the tiniest bit flattered? I thought so. So when you spot me scribbling in Champignons’ journal, come sit by me!

I do so like Will Shakespeare’s plays! I could read and read for days.
I will read them on a plane. And I will read them on a train.
I will read them all with glee, in my Vintage Journals T!
(with apologies to Theodore Geisel)

My Facebook friends know of my resolution to read 50 books in 2010 (46 down, four to go!). Lately I’ve been thinking that Woolf, King and the other authors I’ve read deserve better than my wrinkled April 2009 DC-to-Boston boarding pass for a bookmark. But a West on Salem bookworm with goggly eyes? Now you’re talkin’.

And speaking of New Year’s resolutions, if 2011 is the year I finally conquer the cross-stitch, I have to be really, really excited about the pattern. Thank you, Bella Stitchery, my John Hughes kindred spirit. I wonder if I could go rogue on the pattern enough to stitch “What about prom?” along the bottom…

I’m a pushover for a red shoe, especially one that’s flat, cute, and evokes the flavor of one of my all time favorite places, Scotland. And the fact that Extraseed’s ballet flat is made from eco-friendly vegan fabric? Even better.

I know I said I wasn’t looking for something I need, but for this I’ll make an exception. I need this Fancyschmancynotes calendar. Badly. And if, like me, you and your spouse have the “so, which one of us is picking up the kids again?” conversation more than once a week, you need this too.

So there it is, go forth and shop from the comfort of your couch. Oh, and if you haven’t seen Love, Actually, run – don’t walk – to your Netflix account and request it this season. And please, please visit the deleted scenes section and watch Emma Thompson’s meeting with her son’s teacher to discuss his “Christmas wish.”

Green Eggs and Hamlet – what a hoot! Now I want to hear the story of why you love Scotland. Have you written it yet?

I was wondering if you had purchased from each of these sellers and if you had a good experience with Extraseed? I think they are super cute, but they had several bad reviews on Etsy. Maybe they have worked out the kinks. I am assuming if The Nature Conservancy is recommending these sellers, they must be reputable and well researched. I’m hoping anyway.

Thanks for the post, Alison! I could go on for days about why I love Scotland. I don’t have a blog post in the works on that yet, but I will jump on the opportunity when it presents itself! Best, Kerry

Nicole – I’m new to Etzy myself, so I have not had experience with Extraseed. Good call to review the ratings, and then decide your comfort level with going ahead with a purchase. Best, Kerry
