Everyone has a morning ritual. Get up. Shower. Put on the suit & tie. Make breakfast. Get out the door. Catch that bus.

There are 3 things you need to know about me to understand mine.

  1. I’m a runner.
  2. I’m creative.
  3. I love the outdoors.

Ten years ago I began working for an environmental NGO and have never looked back.

Very soon after that, I abandoned both my car and my permanent seat in the back right corner of the D6 bus —  mostly because I was too broke to afford even that sardine can of a commuter vehicle.

But also because I got tired of living by the bus rules, consuming fossil fuels waiting at stop lights, bad BO, loud headphones, poor exhaust filtration, squeaky breaks, stopping short, too much traffic and, let’s be honest, getting fat.

So I started running to work.

It combined two of my greatest passions while obliterating one of my greatest enemies. Commuting had been transformed from one of the worst parts of my day to one of the best parts.

So right about now you’re probably thinking… that takes care of items 1 and 3 but what does being creative have to do with it?

Well … I filmed it. In the hopes of inspiring anyone like me that just needed that extra little push to get the ball rolling.

Pump up those tires, adjust that helmet, dust off those running shoes. I promise, it will be worth it.

If you need some icing on the cake, how about this?  You can green commute and donate while you do it: 10 cents a mile for bikers and  25 cents a mile for runners/walkers (not that I’m competitive or anything). Check out the Charity Miles app.
