As The Nature Conservancy’s Legacy Club manager, I have been fortunate enough to host a few Legacy trips to experience some of the beautiful places that the Conservancy protects. The best part about hosting these trips is getting a chance to get to know our Legacy Club members and hearing about why they make such incredible commitments to nature.
I vividly remember an honest and poignant admission told to me by a Legacy Club member on a recent trip. We were enjoying a hike in the Arizona mountains, soaking up the rugged beauty of Arizona’s Hart Prairie Preserve, when she turned to me and said:
“This is why I’m a Legacy Club member. These moments in nature bring me such peace and tranquility, and knowing that The Nature Conservancy will continue to protect precious places around the world, in whatever small part due to my bequest, is one of the best gifts I can leave to the next generations.”
To me, this statement embodies the values of our Legacy Club members, which makes my job ever the more fulfilling.
Through my position, I am privileged to work with these loyal and passionate supporters on a daily basis. Though we have over 20,000 Legacy Club members from all walks of life, backgrounds and geographical regions, there is a common thread I see through my every conversation and interaction with these individuals. Each member shares a devotion to and appreciation of preserving the diversity of life on Earth.
This year has been especially meaningful for me (and for all of us at the Conservancy) as we honor and celebrate a significant milestone in the Conservancy’s history: 2013 marks the 20th Anniversary of The Legacy Club! I am so thrilled to commemorate two decades of honoring our organization’s most loyal supporters.
I would like to personally thank all our Legacy Club members, near and far, for their inspirational commitments to the natural world. Your forward-thinking gifts allow us to continue our vital work to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends. And here’s to the next 20 years of The Legacy Club!
I’d love to hear from you to help us commemorate this milestone! What made you become a Legacy Club member? Please share you story with us below.
