Nature Photo of the Week: Spawning Coho Salmon
This amazing shot by Flickr user “Soggydan” Dan Bennett of a leaping coho salmon in Issaquah Creek, Washington state was taken with a 60mm lens — which basically means the photographer could have reached out and touched this fish. Like we said — amazing! Thanks for sharing it through The Nature Conservancy’s Flickr Group, Soggydan!

Photo of the Week: Southward-Bound Sanderling
It’s that time of year when birds start thinking of heading south for the winter (and New Englanders like me wistfully dream about it). Enjoy this great 3-in-1 shot — bird, reflection and shadow – of a sanderling at the beach in Virginia by Flickr user Dave W.

Nature Photo of the Week: Morning Dewdrops on Leaf
I call this one “nature in the abstract.” Are those glass beads? Marbles? Tapioca pearls? No, this pretty shot is of morning dewdrops on a striped leaf by Flickr user KoolPix.

Nature Photo of the Week: Allen’s Hummingbird
An shutter speed of 1/500 of a second still couldn’t capture the beat of this Allen’s hummingbird’s wings, shot by Jenna Stirling and submitted to The Nature Conservancy’s Flickr group. (And BTW — that’s two consecutive Nature Photos of the Week for Ms. Stirling — congrats!)

Nature Photo of the Week: Young and Green
This fabulous close-up of a young green anole was taken by Flickr user Jenna Stirling in her backyard in Texas. Never seen an anole before? Me neither. But now I know it’s a lizard closely related to the iguana, though because it can change its skin color and run up walls, the anole is often [...]
