Cool Green Morning: Monday, Jan. 12

Hello–here’s a roundup of interesting green stuff that’s fresh on the Internet this morning. (We do this every morning, so check back tomorrow for the latest!)
- Pole Position: Could a new U.S. Arctic policy directive to “better define the area of the Arctic and its seabed over which the U.S. could lay claim” mean a new race to tap resources at the top of the world? Environmental Capital says yeah — the melting ice cap makes access to the oil in the Arctic easier.
- Let ‘Em Trade: Environmental Economics thinks the recession isn’t a good reason to delay work on carbon markets — or even a carbon tax.
- I Want a Tonka Version: Never mind about electric cars — here comes the electric truck. (Hat tip: Green Inc.)
- The Vision Thing, Redux: Joel Makower says it’s not enough for Barack Obama to invest in green — he’s got to have a green vision.
- Back to Reality: Meanwhile, The Green Skeptic thinks Obama’s economic stimulus plan might be due for a reality check – although he’s still heartened by Obama’s commitment to alternative energy and energy efficiency.
- More of the Same? And Eoin O’Carroll on Bright Green Blog has a smart rundown on why Obama’s clean energy plan might only make a modest dent in climate change.
- Don’t Let There Be Light: Just when you thought you heard it all, Journal Watch Online reports on a study that says light pollution during the daytime is causing problems for aquatic insects and birds.
- Do the Wave: Red Green and Blue says Google has filed a patent on a wave-powered data center — cooled by seawater.
- Do the Shuffle: Soon, you could charge your iPod by going for a walk.
- I Do Green: Finally, renowned green-living blogger Victoria Everman has a new eco-indie wedding blog.

If the new administration was truly concerned with the environment and the economy why doesn’t it tone down all the media hoopla instead of encouraging expense and waste for this inauguration?
It could have been very elegant yet conserved money and distress on the environment.
